Lug on elliptical head

Hi people, I'm having troubles in modelling a lifting lug that is placed on a 2:1 elliptical head (see attached image). My questiona are:

Is it possible to model this geometry in Compress?
What does ASME Code say about this?
Is there some way to calculate stresses by hand for this case without applying FEA?
Can you suggest another way to place the lugs? I don't have space on the top of the vessel.

Putting any attachments in the knuckle portion of a head is generally a bad idea. If you are adamant in doing so, under VIII-1, you would fall under U-2(g).
 
Putting the lift lug on the knuckle portion of the head should be avoided.

Have you considered using QTY(4) lift lugs on the shell? Orient them at 45° and 315° directly across from each other in pairs and design appropriately. This should result in standard lift lug calculations and WRC 107 analysis to analyze the shell stress.
 
If this horizontal vessel has "no room" on the top shell centerline for lugs, then it must be a small vessel.

If it is indeed a small vessel , perhaps it could be lifted by slings encircling the vessel but hard-up against the saddles.

IMHO, four lifting lugs on a tiny vessel is a bit of overkill
