Hi, I'm required to set up a machine shop for a small shipyard we are developing. Main function is building new ships apprx. 4000T. Any suggestions on the type of equipment to be installed in the machine shop? Floor area is 25m X 45m (13000 sq. ft). Thanks.

1. Find out what is good locally and don’t bother trying to duplicate it. E.G. you’ll want some welding capability but, if you have a good fixture shop locally, you will probably be better off subbing that out.

2. There are some incredibly knowledgeable folks there.

3. Maybe find a truly good person and let them set it up.

Surely this is defined by what work you are looking to do? If you don't know this you would need to find out!!

By machine shop do you mean for maintenance or actual production?

It would be just a general workshop for maintenance of yard equipment and a few fittings etc. for the production. Most all items come from vendors and directly installed so no major production work. Currently allocated lathe small & medium, milling m/c, grinder, hydraulic press, drill press etc. it will probably be sufficient but just needed an outside opinion. Thanks.
