Hello All,

I have a pure Ni plate that is causing us some difficulty. The plate is roughly .25 x 5 x 20 and is to be used as a sputtering target. The plate was produced using a PIF'd (Pneumatic Isostatic forged) process.

Our machinists are complaining that the plate is growing as they machine it. We have tried a range of inserts and different cooling conditions - with no better results.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you.

0.25" thick and a very soft metal will cause all sorts of problems. To circumvent this either try P?M compact with all your final details or invest cast the piece. You will be in a better shape perhaps.
