Hello.

We have problems applying toolpath to undercut area.

We have custom-made carbide dovetail cutter d50mm r0.5mm 35deg or 55deg depending how you specify the angle, shank d20mm.

In NX the tool is specified as T-slot cutter d50mm flute lenght 1mm with r0,5mm and shank d20mm
that matches our actual tool close enough.

What we need is Z-level rough and finish.
Or maybe even with the finish toolpath if we go with small Z-step increments.

Hello.

So here is pictures to clarify the problem.

Undercut1 is roughly from XZ-plane and Undercut2 is XY-plane.

I'm still not sure what you trying to do, but I would first try floor wall milling. Pick the walls with no floor, and turn on undercuts and exact positioning. If this fits your applicaiton, it shoul dbe the easiest.

I'm sure you could also do it in surface contouring, where you have a lot of control, and can set the tool axis one direction while projecting sideways to the undercut.

Original poster's question was "What we need is Z-level rough and finish...." regarding an undercut dovetail.

Is there such a thing? Can NX do it?

[green]To the Toolmaker, your nice little cartoon drawing of your glass looks cool, but your solid model sucks. Do you want me to fix it, or are you going to take all week to get it back to me so I can get some work done?[/green]
