We are doing a project for petrochemical plant. For air compressors we have received one bid for integrally geared centrifugal compressors. The mfr. has offered the unit with magnetic bearings.
Does anyone has experience of magnetic bearings? How reliable are they. Literature found does mention they are better but is technology matured? How is maintenance of these bearings done? If they fail how easily can they be repaired? Since not many technicians are familiar with these bearings should one consider this design.
