Need information on desging a minature magnetic coupling to be used in a fluid situation. The dimension between the driven part and the driving electric motor is .250 of an inch. Need info on magnets and attracting type of materail.

You'll probably want to use the most powerful magnets you can find. Nd-Fe-Bo are powerful as are Samarium Cobalt if you need higher temperature. There may be cheaper magnets you can use if high temperature is not an issue. A magnet company can advise you based on your temperature requirements. You will also need to be careful in choice of material for the mag drive housing. If the material is magnetic, it will short out the magnetic coupling. Inconel works well, but may be overkill unless you need to contain a high pressure fluid. There are a lot of other issues to consider. Hope this helps.

We have a number of small magnetic couplings that can be used in your situation. There are two styles: disc and co-axial. The disc style is like 2 pancakes with magnets on the faces and hubs to connect to your shafts. The co-axial is an inner ring of magnets surrounded by an outer ring of magnets.
