Hi,
does anyone know what is magnetizing current for tranformator? how to measure magnetizing current? and what is it for if i know magnetizing current value?

thank you

Two possible meanings for "excitation current:
1 - normal magnetizing current when powered by 3-phase nameplate voltage under no load conditions
2 - magnetizing current during Doble test when powered by single phase test voltage applied sequentially to each pair of primary leads?
Which are you referring to?

i think is the number 1. normal magnetizing current where powered by 3-phase nameplage voltage under no load conditions.

what is doble test?

thank you

acctualy we have 12 MVA transformer and it was damage and need to be repaired. the repair workshop want to test the magnetizing current. and i 'm not quite sure what magnetizing current test for? and how the procedure?

at No Load conditions transformer have No Loar current which have two components: active (generate No Load Loss) and reactive-magnetizing which generate flux i.e. magnetizing the core

regards

...at very roughly consideration No Load current=magnetizing current

Wait a minute! You said your 12 MVA transformer was damaged, and your repair workshop wants to test for magnetizing current? You get magnetizing current by energizing the transformer. If your transformer has short-circuited windings, a good recipe for loud bang there!
Did I read your post wrong?

yes they said like that but they want to energizing the transformator not with nameplate voltage but with 380v. is this standart procedure?
