main body of transformer head space piped to head space in LTC compartment

Has anyone ever hear of connecting the head space of the main body with the head space of the LTC compartment because the board leaks between the two spaces and this will let that oil flow back into the main body from the LTC compartment. Sound kind of rouge to me!

Do you have a separate tank for the diverter switch? I can't imagine ever wanting diverter switch oil in the main chamber.

Nope. selecter and reversing in the same tank. Cant believe it either. Trying to get a feel to what the rest of the industry thinks

Question does not make clear the constructional details.Please show by sketch or photos.Normally there will be separate conservators for main tank and diverter switch(= arcing) chambers.There will be no interconnection during service. Sometimes an equalising pipe connection will be provided between these chambers with a valve in between.This is used to equalise the pressure during vaccuming of tank.

I have heard of it, but just in terms of "that would be very bad idea." We have had leaks large enough that it required regular draining of the LTC compartment to ensure that it did not overflow.

Even if it were a vacuum type LTC with relatively contaminant free oil, mixing the oil would eliminate the ability to use dissolved gas analysis (DGA) in the main tank.
