I was just taking a look at this functionality.

I create a Sketch and choose Plane Option->Create Plane and define a plane. For Sketch Orientation I choose an Edge/Face. I complete the Sketch and exit.

Why is the option for Make Datums Internal not available ?

I do notice that if I select an existing plane as the horizontal reference, or choose one of the axes of the Datum Csys that is displayed (during the Sketch creation), then the option is available.

Must I really use the Datum Csys, or create an extra plane for the Sketch Orientation in order for this option to be available ?

When you pick the face/edge now your plane depends on external geometry. It is no longer 'self-contained' and cannot be made internal.

Cowski,

I'm only selecting the face/edge to define the Sketch horizontal reference.

The placement plane is created within the Sketch command.

A tip on internal sketches:
If you associated a sketech to a previous sketch then you will not be able to make that previous sketch internal.

I guess it would be nice to make the datums internal also, but if those datums are used for something else then they will not be seen.

The horizontal reference now depends on the face/edge which is external.
