Dear all

I have a question for MANDATORY APPENDIX 20 20-2.

What kind of two test specimens sampling for app 20-2 ?

(1) two test specimens for each plate.
(2) two test specimens for each tubesheet
(3) two test specimens for each heat number

Test specimens, in addition to those required by the
material specifications, shall be taken in a direction paral-
lel to the axis of the hub and as close to the hub as prac-
tical, as shown in Figure UW-13.3. At least two tensile test
specimens shall be taken from the plate in the proximity
of the hub with one specimen taken from the center third
of the plate width as rolled, and the second specimen ta-
ken at 90 deg around the circumference from the other
specimen. Both specimens shall meet the tensile and yield
requirements of the SA material specification. All dimen-
sional requirements of Figure UW-13.3 shall apply.

RAGER, referring to UW-13(g)(2) & (h) it seems clear that the intent is to test each part: Head, tubesheet or lap joint stub end. I mean think about it, the plate from which the article is formed must have thru-thickness properties that meet the material spec and the hub must be free from laminations.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Thanks Mike . you answer is the same with our AI.

I found some similar requirement at code case 2155-2 for different material and question it.

We have a new project with 56 test specimens needed.

It seems that we can not avoid it.
