Keith,
That's not the name, it's the description. "Equip. electrico alta tensao" just means high voltage electrical equipment in Portuguese. From the other stuff I see on there, it looks like it maybe came from Brazil ("Bras" might be short for Brasilia), which fits with Marmites post.

ER stands for Emil Ritz, but not the same Ritz as Ritz Instrument Transformers, but Ritz Instrument Transformers used to sell/promote/have brand-labeled ER reactors and line traps in North America.

I'll save you the long history of name changes...the ER factory in Brazil is now owned by GE/Alstom Grid, so you can do to them for info.
