I came across the attached symbol on a manufacturing print recently. I have no idea what it signifies and was hoping that someone recognizes it and would know it's purpose.
old surface finish symbol. Kind of a stylized f. Some suggest the lower half atrophied and it evolved into the V used today. Sometimes appears with a number indicating the quality of the surface finish, if you have the decoder ring. By itself it means finish/machine, as surfaces of a casting that can not be left as-cast.
