I've found an abstract of what seems like a useful report, but I can't locate a copy on the web. The report is "Interaction of Anchors with Soil and Anchor Design" by Robert J. Taylor, 1982. It's a US Navy document so I figure it must be free and available, I just can't find it thru Google. Anyone know of link where I can download it, or is anyone willing to share a copy of this 50 page document?

(I also posted this last week in the "Coastal Engineers" forum, but since that forum doesn't seem to get much activity I posted again here.)

phasteddy,

I would contact a public affairs officer with the Navy and find out where their civil engineering research is kept. The Civil Engineering Lab appears to have been closed in the late 90's. I have no idea which naval command has purview over the lab's research. You could also try NTIS (
Good Luck!

I don't know the report you asked about, but there is a site you may like to try, from Vryhof Anchors.
I found this site from a thread in eng-tips, but I can't remember the category. It is a 173 page manual (pdf) & is very comprehensive with theory, anchor types, holding power etc, etc. I haven't tried the site recently, so I don't know whether it is still available.

Phasteddy,

Robert Taylor was aboard when we performed several anchor tests back in the late 80s.

Here is Robert's recent phone number from a colleague of his: 805-982-5419

Good luck,

P.S. to BarryEng: Thanks for the info on Vryhof. I downloaded their manual on "Theory" and it has some very good information.

Thank you gentlemen for the Vryhof reference and Robert Taylor's contact info....................
