Masonry / Brick Crack Evaluation

Hi, Any books recommend to further study about the cause, the pattern, and the repair of the masonry/concrete and brick veneer crack?

Recently came across a lot of residential inspection reports. Both foundation contractor and engineer's comments are very subjective and a lot of professionals afraid of further evaluate based on material behavior and external causes and suggest soil reinforcement right away.
