Hi folks,

I'm signed up to take the big P&P test in October and wanted to ask a quick question. As far as masonry goes, the test questions are based on the ACI 530-99. I have a copy of the ACI 530-02, but have not had time to run down all of the changes. Can someone who is familiar with both editions tell me if you think the changes are major enough for me to hunt down a 99 for the test? I know there are some changes, but I also know that sometimes these folks just crank out new manuals to make some $$$. I'm sorry for the lame question, thanks for any advice you can offer.

If you have access to March 2002 "Structural Engineer" magazine, there is an article describing changes. According to the article, the highlights include a new strength design chapter, seismic changes compatible with IBC and ASCE 7, and modifications to allowable flexural tension design values in unreinforced masonry.

I can't help much with your question, but good luck on the test!
