Match Part thread with Correct Screw thread in assembly

I have a plate with a couple threaded holes in it. I do not know what type and size of thread I want in the plate. Is there a way in the assembly to change the screw size and thread pitch (it is a family screw) to the correct size when I change the plate thread size?
