Hi! :)) May I ask what is the suitable material for a pump impeller having a medium of caustic soda with a temperature of around 29-38C? And if you guys could suggest a reference book about material selection for certain chemicals, i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Ummmmmmm....."a medium of caustic soda" is vague, IMHO ... What is your percent caustic ....?????

The DOW handbook for Caustic Soda has been around for decades and is certainly the go-to in this subject matter.

While several materials are acceptable for use, how long do you want your pump impeller to last ?

Alloy 20 (and other premium materials) are usually worth the extra cost .... If you want to extend maintenace intervals

But, a few questions present themselves:

1) What kind of caustic pump are you using ?.... Which vendor ?... Conventional or seal-less ?
2) Are you allowing for additional Caustic NPSH margin with your pump selection ?
3) What kind/type of mechanical seal are you using ? ... how did you make your selection ?
4) Are you considering how you will flush the pump internals with clean water casing when the pump is shutdown ?

These might help ....... GOOD LUCK SIR !!!! .............KEEP US POSTED ABOUT YOUR FINAL SELECTIONS !!!!

More information please ....

The %NaOH is around 48-50.

Also, do you have a PDF file or link to that book, Ed?

Not a legal one. If you have specific questions about concentration/temperature/flow I could pull some tables for you.
(I have it legally, but not to share)
