Hi All,

I have some clarification on material selection for Heat Exchanger. In my client specification clearly mentioned that Tube side material is SS316L and Shell side material is CS. As per specification, my understanding is Material for Tubes & Channel side is SS316L. In this case can we connect the shell flange(CS material) with channel flange(SS material). Kindly share your experience.

Thanks

Dear vinothhsvk,

A little more data like service conditions, pressure, temperature etc. could have helped.

Anyway, yes, such coolers do exist where there is lot of tube side fouling, corrosion, etc. The client as the first step to mitigate corrosion, upgrades the tubes to SS.

I have been part of such teams where this was done, though I did not fully agree to such practice.

Be careful in selection of bolt material.

Presumably with a tubesheet between. Done all the time.

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
