Material test reports

Is there a Code case or interpretation that allows you to not check the chemical composition on a material test report during receiving for an ASME Code vessel? I have never found one that was incorrect in 30 years.

I had heard the issue was discussed or a possible code case was done. It sparked my interest.

No, for Section I or Section VIII. Does that answer your question?

Although it doesn't specifically answer your question you might find Int VIII-1-92-22 of interest.
Basically, it will direct you back to your own quality manual for specific answers.
I will say that we routinely find discrepancies in our suppliers MTR's. Just yesterday, we rejected a piece of domestic pipe certifed to SA106, that didn't meet the chemistry required by that spec.
We often find suppliers have furnished MTR's that have heat numbers that don't match those stamped on the parts.
As Quality Control Manager I never allow materials to be used without complete inspection and review / approval of the supplied MTR's. The inspection and MTR review must be conducted and signed off by one of my inspectors.
Incidentally, the most basic requirement we have is that no materials are accepted from China. That requirement is emblazoned across every one of our purchase orders, and yet we often receive, and reject materials because they came from China.

Why the Code if we do not need it?
I find mistakes in MTR's and materialsevery day and I have a very small shop. 6 Stamps but a small fab. shop.
that 30 yrs man may be a lucky one or not checking well.
If you wait 'til the ASME team get you it may be too late.
