Hello there,

I am using MathCAD2000 professional.
I was wondering if it is possible to do Matrix in Matrix calculations in MathCAD. I was trying to compute some Voltages on Transmission Lines and all i got was "This expression must be a scalar"

What i did:

V=[ [E]+[rs] 0 ]*([D]^(-1))*[VS]
[ 0 [E]+[rl] ]

Where [E],[rs],[rl] are 2x2 matrices with scalar valus
[D] is a 2x2 matrix where every element is another 2x2 matrix with scalar values
[VS] is a 2 row vector, where each element is a complex number.
i can calculate every matrix on its own, but not connect them with each other.

Currently I am at a point where I have knops in my brain.
Does anybody has a clue how to solve this?

Thanks in Advance

Daniel

Dan,

Have you used the HELP function in Mathcad to investigate "Nested Arrays" ?

Dan:
Here's another reference that may be useful to you.

Advanced: Nested Arrays in Mathcad
By Krista Carven and Jon Fournier

"Mathcad supports nested arrays. However, they cannot be defined or accessed using the standard three subscript form, Mi,j,k. Each k dimension of the array has to be created individually."

Thanks for your answers,

it worked by defining each element of each matrix on its own
like in the mathcad files above. Thanks alot

Do you know how i can use a function (dependence of frequency) in the matrices? When I try it, MatchCAD just says: The function on the left cannot be defined.

Daniel,
This is a poor forum for trying to work thru problems with Mathcad useage. It doesn't not support display of work sheet or samples thereof.

Would very much suggest that you post to the Mathcad Collabratory ... there you can attach your worksheet for others to see and respond in kind to.

I would suggest further that you post to the Electrical forum therein.

Seems that I saw something in the Collab recently about your latest question. If I find it... I'll post to you here.
