I have two questions :

1. Is it ok MAWP of vessel or exchanger to be limited by body flange . On other word , can we consider body flange as major component ?
2. If MAWP of nozzles is limited by flange and MAWP of the entire vessel is limited by body flange & flanges of nozzles . Does this consider to be acceptable ?

The MAWP has to be limited by some component. The Code imposes no restrictions on which is the limiting component. Contractual documents (owner specs, etc) may impose additional restrictions.

Form the engineering point of view, it's fine to design a PV to be based on the ASME flange rating. However, it may be an economic reason to use operating pressure and temperature for the design.

Dream91, client specifications, if applicable, may restrict what components can limit MAWP.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
