I got one. I have a ASME code pressure vessel with a dimple jacket. The jacket was assumed to be rated at 75 PSIG @ 575F MAWP, but the U-1 indicates its 45 PSIG @ 575F. Is there a process to get the jacket rating increased?

If I'm not mistaken, dimpled jacket manufacturers have done a proof test to validate their designs. I don't know that there is a way to rerate these, short of FEA.

Best Regards,

Michigander.

You might go back to original mfr if they possess an R stamp and see if they can "rerate" the jacket. Dimple jacket designs are based off proof tests completed by the designer, so best to start there.

Get an "R" -stamp holder to perform a Alteration re-rating of the vessel. Just run the calcs for the pressure/temp you are wanting and have a CI sign off on it.
