Anyone know what the maximum shipping length for a beam trucked to a jobsite is (without a special escort and permit).

I have heard up to 50 feet, but I thought the norm was 40 feet.

Typical semi-trailers have a length of 53' which corresponds to a max vehicle length of 70'. This can be larger in different jurisdictions. Best to check with your local highways department.

Height of load is often a bigger problem.

State Trooper happens upon a semi-trailer stuck under an overpass...

State Trooper to Driver: Didja get her stuck?

Driver to State Trooper: Nope..I was deliverin' this overpass and ran out of fuel.

This is a technical post...evidence of dik's comment on height of load!!

Thanks Ron.

I have some long glulams on an existing storefront I'm designing for a revised canopy configuration and needed to know where to put the breaks. Looks like I did OK at 44' max. [smile]

Oh, and Ron hit the target with Washington. He's the man.
