Hi Guys,
I am selecting a dust collector which will filter zinc particles coming from a leaching process. Zinc comes with 5% weight-liquid. I know for a fact that this percentage is well above the 1% recommended for dust collectors/fabric filter. My problem is that I have not found a single reference book to support this. Do you guys where I can find a reliable source?

regards,
Armando

What exactly is your question? Different dusts will have vastly different sensitivity to moisture. Moisture causes dust to become sticky, and that will quickly plug any filter. Liquid water is also corrosive.

Dust is mostly zinc. Moisture comes from the sulfate solution used in the preceding leaching process zinc is subjected to. Measured data gives 5% of the sulfate solution still present at the exhaust hood connected to the dust collector. My question is, Will the dust collector using NOMEX filters become plug? Where can I find reliable information about recommended moisture levels for different types of dust/filters?

Are you using shaker, or reverse pulse jet Bag filters?
If you are having problems with agglomeration on the bag face, can you shorten the duration between bag cleanings?

Hi berkshire,
The moisture I am having problems to deal with comes from the dust, not from the ambient air nor moisture from compressed air (is has a drier installed). The bag house has a reverse pulse jet cleaning system. We are at the moment conducting trials to determine the optimum time between cleanings. Are there any recommendations you can provide me to help dealing with the moisturized dust?

If the dust has as much moisture as you say it does, then look at cyclone systems for wet sawdust. Unfortunately the only way you are going to know if the agglomerated dust will fall off the bag when the pulse operates is by test, or prior experience, check with your bag-house maker on this. You may have better luck with Teflon coated bags .
Either that or consider a wet scrubber similar to the one suggested by Big tom Hanks.
You may also consider putting a cyclone upstream of the bag house, so that the dust load collected by the bag is much lower in volume.
