I'm having trouble cutting 0.50 mild steel w/O2. After I pierce and begin cutting, my cut is very rough (welds itself back in) for the first few mm. Then it stabilizes and cuts well. Any suggestions or cut conditions for the beginning of the cut? I'm using an older 2K mazak. Thanks!

What you may want to do is pulse for about a distance of about 0.060" using 3.5"/min 2000 Watts, 10 Hz, 35% Duty cycles.

To do this, you have to break the geometry of the part, assign the cutting parameters mentioned earlier and just before program transitions back to normal cutting, use the parameters you have been using all along for cutting this material.

Example:

G00X1.0Y1.5
G82P2000Q10R35(Pulsing Condition)F3.5
G01x1.060Y1.5
G82PxxxQxxxRxxxF35

Good Luck

I dont know if this will work on your machine but on my amada X1 i just increase the length of my lead in about 2 - 3 mm to allow the cut to begin better.
