My career path seems to be heading in the direction where it will be useful to have both degrees. I eventually want to get into management but also want to get into the technical side of engineering (designing/analysis of large strucutures). I've heard/read a little about dual/joint progrmas that offer both MSCE and MBA together. I would like to focus on structures as my MSCE.

The questions I have are...
1. Does this sound like a good career path for what I want to do?
2. What are some good schools that offer joint programs in MSCE/MBA? I have a 3.9 GPA so I should have a relatively competitive application
3. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks

I have the MBA and almost the MSCE. Going into business for myself, the combination definitely helped me.

You want to stay local in NC, or are you willing to move?

I'd be willing to move. I'd probably prefer to stay reasonably close to NC but I'm open to anything if it's the right fit.

If you come out with an MBA and a MSCE then I would go for it. If you come out with some weird half and half hybrid degree, then I would say no.

To add, if you dont have at least 4 years of work experience I would say no. 3.9 may sound good to grad schools and scholarship applications, but actually that red flags a lot of firms in the real world....is this guy practical?

1. Yes, it sounds like a good path.
2. Sorry, not in CE, don't know anything about the programs.
3. B16A2 makes a good point, don't estimate the value of work experience before your graduate degree(s). I'm back in school for my masters now (part time) after having worked in industry for 5 years. I am getting much more out of my courses than I would have had I gone right to grad school from undergrad.
