I need to merge the data on one microprocessor to a new one. This microprocessor is a mc9s12h128vfv, there is a six pad programming port on the rear of the circuit. Is there a way I can extract the data from one microprocessor and merge it to the new one without removing the chip from the circuit? With either a diy programmer and a standard computer?

It is the same microprocessor in the same part,an instrument cluster, I just need to merge the data from the old one to the new one. I know the data can be accessed and manipulated via fancy programmers. But I just want to simply merge the data from the old unit to the replacement. My other thought is to attempt to unsolder it and re-install it on the new device. However, I was hoping there was an easier way..

The pads on the pack represent the following paths, Power, BDM, Reset, and Ground. If that makes sense...

If this is OEM equipment, then it's highly likely that the OEM has locked the code, which is what I would to do to prevent people like you from willy-nilly copying the code.

And if it's a high-volume item, the code is likely in masked-ROM, which means you won't have access to it. And you'd need more than one GPIO (BDM) to get the code out of there, too.

Is it possible to safely de-solder it and reinstall it?
