Pressure vessel is designed at 900# and -46c/75c design temp @97 bar pressure.Shell material is 316L and 36mm thk.Calculated MDMT is -29c by PV ELITE softwear. No heat treatment applied on the material and as per ASME SECTION VIII DIV-2 there is no impact testing requirement.

Kindly advise me that the material can be used at -46c.

Regards.

If there is no impact testing requirement, the material is permitted for use at -46 deg C.

Thanks metengr for your quick response. Can you please give me the referance in ASME SECTION VIII DIV-2 because our client will definately ask the basis.

Regards.

Yes. Review the following
ASME Section VIII, Div 2

Article 2 "Special Requirements for Ferrous Material"
AM-213 (b) on page 24

Again thanks metengr,i have read AM-213 (b)"Impact test temperature criteria" and it is written that examption from impact testing for austenitic chromium-nickle stainless steel types 304,304l,316,316l,321 and 347 at MDMTs of -320F(-196C)and warmer".

The impact testing critaria is clear. But PVELITE shows MDMT -29c when click the impact testing requirement and when without requirement it shows MDMT -18c.Our case is no requirement than in this case, with design temp -46c,what would be the impact on the material?

Regards.

But PVELITE shows MDMT -29c when click the impact testing requirement and when without requirement it shows MDMT -18c.

Follow the requirements directly from the Code.

OK,now i got the point.

Again thanks.
