Could someone explain to me how to measure the Throat between blades on a turbine. Do you have any link fora website that contains a scheme. I would like to develop an algorithm that calculates that automatically.
The throat is the restriction distance between two airfoil sections.
Measuring the throat on turbine blades: one technique is to use "Small Hole Gages" (Starrett No. 829) for high-pressure turbine buckets, and telescoping gages (Starrett No.229A) for low-pressure buckets.
Use the gages to find the minimum diameter ( the restriction), usually from the trailing edge to the suction side of the adjacent blade. Then measure the gage with micrometers or (easiest) digital calipers. Measure several different blade set - a 5~10% variation is possible.
