Mechanical anchors into FRC

All,

we are considering using Fiber Reinforced Concrete in one of our designs. It has not much structural demand on it, but is an odd shape and we need to control cracking. We will, however, need to anchor equipment and potentially some steelwork into it using either cast in or post installed mechanical anchors. As I have no experience in FRC I have no feel if anchors would work and how would their capacity compare to them being installed in traditionally reinforced concrete. I tried to do a literature search but could not find anything directly applicable to this.

Does anybody in this forum has experience or can point me in a direction of resources which deal with this?

I've asked a Hilti rep about this and he said the presence of fibers make no difference (or at least they've done no research to prove otherwise). That was a few years ago, so things may have changed since then.

Thanks MotorCity, I have asked Hilti too, and if they come up with anything I will post it here.

I would look into shear, compressive, and tensile strenght of FRC and compare it with regular unreinforced concrete. If all these strength parameters for FRC are similiar or greater than the unreinforced concrete, I would just perform the anchor design considering it to be a plan unreinforced concrete as a conservative approach.

I now am also interested in knowing if FRC actually enhances the performance of post-installed anchors. Perhapse some R & D is warrented for the post-installed anchor companies.

I have received some information from HILTI; basically there is very little information about performance of anchors in FRC and they suggested to carry out a programme of experiments / tests.
