Hi

I am working in oil company in offshore ( island ) in mechanical maintenance team as upstream unity. As part of initiative we have 4 pillars to achieve 1. People 2.performance. 3.Efficiency 4. profitability .. I need your support to have an idea or initiative done in your company which is reflect to the 4 pillars in order to shared with my company. May reflect to maintenance cost reduction, HSE award , Integrity solution form any related mechanical equipment static or rotating

Your support will be highly appreciated

So, you want someone to GIVE you something for which you will receive some award or recognition, as if it were your idea. Am I seeing that right? There's a word for that - plagiarism.

I support your desire to have an idea. Good luck!

I disagree for the word plagiarism...the concept is to shared an ideas which is good or help a overall performance or reduce HSE risk .. since we are a members in this forum we have a right to discuss.. the misunderstanding should not be here .I am never ever used word ( I ) if something not from me ..

Thanks for understanding

Present your ideas.

We'll discuss them.

If I misunderstood your intent to claim the idea as your own when you presented it to management I apologize. If not, I do not apologize. And of course any misunderstanding could be a language thing.

Your four points appear to be basic tenets of corporate culture and values. Personally, I've always felt that the backbone of that was standard process bc if everybody is going the same direction (working the same way) then you're less likely to have folks bump into one another. I would recommend at least annually reviewing to ensure that 1. there is a standard process for every task performed within your company, 2. that responsible employees know it, 3. that its easy to learn and perform, and then solicit opinions on ways to improve that process. There is usually plenty of grumbling about this being a waste of time, but ultimately even standardizing/organizing things like presentations via templates can save a ton of time for folks who need to reference them for specific info later on.

Dear Jboggs
At the end we are engineers so we are proficinal!!!!

Dear CWB1
Thanks alot for your comment. Highly appreciated

The usual phrase about plagiarism:
-Short common version: copying is wrong
-Long version: copying without credit is wrong
Isn't it obvious which is incompletely phrased? I kept running into people who used the short version and stymied their ability to contribute because of it.

If the boss asks for improvement to a manufacturing process and:
-Alex says he spent 8 hours alone last night and could only save 5% of costs
-Bob says he spent 15 minutes, threw his hands up and called friend Mike who suggested reversing the assembly order. Then Bob read a magazine where writer Neil discussed using glue instead of bolts. Bob tells the boss that he tried the ideas he got from Mike and Neil and found that together they could cut costs by 10%.
-was Bob 100% honorable? Yes.
-who do you think the boss is going to remember as being helpful?

The boss will care more about your ability to get his problems solved than he will about the solutions being of your own creation. You just have to give credit.

Obvious that OP is more conversant in another language, and if stated in native language may not appear so sinister. Good luck with the project, I like task assignments for real projects and not these made up exercises. I say sit down with your team and write a few comments about each pillar. Some of them will look good, work to refine those.

I understand the OP's frustration - trying to do actual work while dealing with 'the latest fad from upper managment'

I work/consult in machinery diagnostics which impacts all 4 of your pillars. Many plants implement machine condition monitoring in some fashion. It can be effective in detecting a known or unknown faults, following a failure trend, and indicating severity. Diagnostic skills (inhouse or service technicians) are sometimes deficient when trying to identify the fault(s) present and their cause. The additional fault diagnostic information can improve assessment of severity and planning detailed operations and maintenance actions. On the plus side of condition monitoring and Predictive Maintenance machines with "issues" can be separated from those that don't have any. On the negative side there may be false positives (no actual fault), false negatives (fault not detected), or most importantly no actions taken. People (safety and productivity), machine/production performance, efficiency (production energy and uptime), and profitability (maintenance savings and plant uptime are a direct source of profit) can only be realized when the Predictive Maintenance program (with condition monitoring cornerstone) is effective.
