Hello all,

BS970-1955 lists all mechanical properties for a given steel grade, considering heat treatment processes. For example, it lists UTS and Yield if for a steel if the steel is annealed, normalized, QT, etc.

Is there a standard, textbook, database etc that lists these properties for SAE steels?

Start with ASM Handbook Volume 1 which lists properties and selection of steels. A smaller set of that data is listed in the Metals Handbook Desktop Edition. Beyond that, you will need to find the appropriate ASTM and/or AMS specifications depending on the product form you would be using.

Another good source for more specific information is the ASM Worldwide Guide of Equivalent Irons and Steels.

Finally, I wanted to note that what you are calling "SAE Steels" are now defined by the Unified Numbering System (UNS). A handy reference is Metals and Alloys in the Unified Numbering System published as SAE HS-1086 and ASTM DS56L. While the book only defines alloy compositions, it does cross-reference any standards that call out the alloy you are looking for so you can find the right specified properties.

SAE Standards: SAE develops standards that include information on the mechanical properties of various materials, including steels. You can search for relevant SAE standards in their standards database.
Technical Bulletins and Reports: SAE also issues technical bulletins and reports that may contain information on the mechanical properties of SAE steels.
Online Resources and Databases: There are online resources and databases where you can find information about the mechanical properties of SAE steels.

Some SAE standards, especially for automotive applications, are published that do cover mechanical properties (e.g. J429 for fasteners, J434 for ductile iron, etc). Most SAE standards that cover mechanical properties are published instead as AMS (i.e. Aerospace Material Specification) standards. Some of the AMS standards evolved from Mil Specs. You should find the appropriate standard using the UNS book referenced above.
