Hello,

Can anybody provide me any suggestions about standard practice or precautionary measures of conducting Megger Test in Hazardous Area containing Hydrocarbons. It is a topside electric motor pump as well as gauging instrument devices of loaded crude oil tanker. A link of brief literature is much appreciated.

Thanks.

WE cover these situations under our "Hot Work" permitting program, treating the megger test as a possible ignition source.

That means, in it's most basic form, examination of the worksite, including testing for flammable atmosphere.

Hi, oldfield.. Can you provide me a link about your guidelines or checklist upon completing HOT Work Permit? Any adapted standard practice incorporated to your program? Thanks.

I also cover this work under a hot work permit. You would do a initial LEL check for gas, depending on your situation having a meter at the motor where you may be expecting a possible spark. Typically having someone man the detector that is in the hazardous area if your are testing from a remote location...MCC,motor disconnect,ECT....
