Hi all,
I would need to measure the angular velocity of a sling load hanging from a helicopter.
It is not a normal sling load but a tool that is used to hit a powerline and shed ice.
Does anyone have experience with MEMS gyroscope in a harsh environment, to resist high shock and temperature range?
The goal would be to provide a real-time reading of the velocity to the pilot.
Thank you

What do you think is going to be an issue? Can a helicopter generate or a powerline take a shock that a device that's barely a couple tenths of an inch across can't?

TTFN (ta ta for now)

Have you got an electric utility lines operator on side with this project?
Do you have a heli operator with experience hovering adjacent to wires on side, too?

What does the pilot really need to know to carry out the operation?
Hovering in proximity to powerlines is a "high workload" operation, so it's best not to add more streams of data to be monitored than necessary.
The information needed is dependent on the mechanism that the machine uses to strike the powerline.

Make sure you can't get anything snagged.

"SparWeb" I've got all of that covered thank you. They are already doing this operation, but the impact force is not controlled.
"IRstuff" Thanks for the link. It say it can take a 10,000 g powered shock. How can I relate this to a maximum impact that the device can take?
I've calculated a KE of 500/1000 J for my application.
Thanks
