Hello,

I am trying merge two surface parts but for some reason its not merging. Am very sure there is no gap between them. When ever I try it says merge operation is unsuccessful , I like to merge it so I can form the mesh because merge mesh did not work either. Can anyone help

I tried merging there and importing here as a single part but it always says imprecise geometry when I import the model. So i have to import as individual parts and when I try to merge here its not working

Can you provide more information? What CAD program? File type? Can you upload any of these?

When I have seen these issues it's usually 1 of 2 reasons.

1. CAD errors such as small gaps
2. Import error. Abaqus has tighter tolerances than many CAD packages. You can try export options and file types.

I hope this helps.

You can see my attached geometry. I am quite sure there is no gaps. So if you succeed in merging the geometry please let me know

I opened your geometry and it came in as 20 surfaces. When I tried to import them as a single there were errors as you noted. Looking at the geometry I expect that modeling as beam elements may be more appropriate. The image below shows the aspect ratio for others to see and comment.

I have not had much experience bringing Rhino into Abaqus. Hopefully there are settings available to increase it's resolution. You could also try other file types such as: step, parasolid, IGS.

I hope this helps.

If you zoom in, you will notice there are tiny features that CAE can not wrap its head around (for good reason). I would much rather do the geometry clean up in SolidWorks or something similar.

Hello Rob,

This is a simplified geomtry that I sent you because there will be surfaces in between the triangles. If I manage to merge these surfaces then the surfaces that comes inside the triangle is easy to merge. So i can use only as shell elements that is simple way to do. I have tried other formats too except parasolid. If I can solve using parasolid I will let you know until then I am keep trying. For two days am trying these. It will be much helpful if someone manaage to solve it

I tried in parasolid format. It shows imprecise geometry I could not edit it. Is there anyother way to merge mesh of these parts that will be helpful too

Hello,

After 3 days of struggle finally solved the geometry problem. I tried using merge algorithm in rhino 5 by taking away edges now it works.

Hi martmachado,

You mentioned in previous post that
"Since Abaqus accepts only some extension (.f, .for, .obj, ...) but not f90, the support provide me with a short environmental file telling Abaqus to expect any format, in this way f90 will be used but you have to rename your subroutine file to .for"

I have same problem can you please, send me the "short environmental file" to my email
ahmadsaddy@yahoo.com

Thanks for your help

Best Regards,
Alazzawi
