Hello All,

I am trying to simulate the contact problem of hyperelastic material with a rigid body in Abaqus-Standard using Implicit dynamics. Basically the hyperelastic material is falling upon a rigid ball (Analytical rigid) moving with certain velocity. During the simulation I observed that after the contact of the hyperelastic material with the ball, the material rebounds and then the whole mesh collapses.

Does anyone has faced the similar issue? And if yes can you give your suggestions?

Looking forward to the suggestions.

Which type of elements and which hyperelasticity model do you use ? I think that it would be better to solve this problem using Explicit.

Thanks for the reply.
I am using M3D4(4 node quadrilateral membrane) elements. Actually I have to use Implicit dynamics as per the problem statement of my thesis.

Did you try using shell elements ? What are your contact settings, do you use general contact ?

Actually I used membrane elements to avoid any bending resistance. I need it to act like a fabric.

I am using 4 contacts :
1. Surface to surface contact (Standard) between ball and hyperelastic material.
2. Self contact (Standard) between 1st surface of the hyperelastic material.
3. Self contact (Standatd) between the 2ns surface of the hyperelastic material.
4. Surface to surface contact (Standard) between table and hyperelastic material(Note: Table is not visible in the above pics which I have shared)

Try solving this with general contact, you may get better results.
