Mesh control with a shell mesh using mid-surfaces in COSMOS?

Hello All,

I would think that this is no big deal, but I cannot apply a mesh control with a shell mesh using mid-surfaces. The part meshes fine, but it completely ignores the applied mesh controls. I am using CosmosWorks 2007 SP5.0 and SolidWorks 2007 SP5.0. I am able to successfully apply mesh controls on the part (a simple rectangular plate with a hole in it) when using a solid mesh and shell mesh using surfaces. Does anyone else have this problem? It drives me nuts when things don't work properly! I don't necessarily need to use a shell mesh using mid surfaces, but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to.

Thank you!

It does work for me, but I´m on CW2006 so can´t say anything about 2007

vims,

That is good to know. Thank you for your response! Hopefully, someone using 2007 will be able to give us some feedback as well (please...).

I'm having the same problem with CW 2006 SP 0.0
I was going to say it might due to insufficient RAM, but even with only 512 Megs, I was able to run a solids based mesh with nearly 800,000 degrees of freedom.

I've had a few other problems when doing the tutorial problems of SW's Designer Training Manual, such as Global Contact Gap results not working. But then after about 10 attempts, I did get correct results with the manual. Very weird.

If you find out what's going on here, please let me know.

Just to clarify on the local mesh control problem, I do see the icons on the part model indicating that a local control should have been applied, but when I say Show Mesh on the model ( after remeshing, of course ), the smaller local elements that should be in place of the global ones do not show up. This fact, and the fact that the number nodes, elements and results remain unchanged compared to the that with no locally refined mesh means that there local control isn't there.

Still stumped as to why it isn't working.

Thank you for your post. That is the same exact problem I was having. I am happy to hear that I am not alone.

Where are you applying the Mesh Controls ? On an Edge or on the Surface ? It won't work if you select Edge.
In your case, you could create a small ring around the hole using split lines. Remember to do split lines on both the parallel surfaces. Select the surfaces in this ring for Mesh control. It should work.
