Hello,
I am trying to model a plain strain problem with 2 layers, one on top of another, the line of interface making 45 deg w.r.t sides. To visualize, try cutting a rectagle such that it appears to be formed by placing 2 trapeziums along the slant.

I want to define contact elemnts at interface.I use plane 182 and when i try to mesh, there appears a dense mesh along the interface! It would be easy for computation and allow me to couple DOF of certain contact elements if the meshing is not so dense. I get even meshing when i have one line at the interface but then, i am unable to generate contact elements. Is there a way to get the an even mesh and contact elements ?

Thanks.

How are you generating the contact elements and which contact elements are you using? How are you controlling mesh density at the interface line, as this will determine the contact density?

Thanks Drej. I am generating contact elements using the contact manager/contact wizard. The contact elements generated are contact 169 and target 170. I do not control the mesh density at the interface line.
I tried a circular inclusion at center of a square sometime back and even then i did not control the mesh density at line(arc). BUt still i got a neat mesh. While trying, i found that using auto shapes in ansys (triangle, square, rectangle, circle ,polygon) as inclusion in a square/rectangle background and automatic meshing gives a neat mesh at the line interface.

Thanks.
