Which cheaper metallurgy as compared to SS316L shall be suitable for indirectly fired ccr calciner which operates at 600 C in wet chloride service?

You want it cheap, at 600C in wet chloride service ?...... Right ?

.... and you, and your client probably want a 25 year service life with no wastage either.... Is that also correct ?

This is highly oxidizing?
Is there any carbarization, sulfidation, molten salt attack?
Why 316L? How long does it last?
This doesn't sound optimal, more info please.

SS316L is not a suitable choice for wet chloride service, especially at 600degC. You may have to select, as a minimum, some super duplex SS grade (PREN >40 or so), or preferably Hastelloy or Inconel 600 or Inconel 800. All of these cost a great deal more than SS316L.

Dear All,
Thanks for your quick reply. We already know SS 316L is not correct metallurgy for wet chloride service. However, incoloy or hastealloy shall be way to costlier for us. Any suggestion for metallurgy with equivalent cost as that of SS316L?
Please note that the calciner is indirectly fired. Your early response shall be highly appreciated.

Isn't this usually done with A36 and refractory lining or Cr steels (1.5%Cr, 2.25%Cr, 5%Cr) when bare?
They have good strength in this temp range, resist CSCC attack, and will only pit and rust.
They also are harder than common steels so they will have somewhat better abrasion resistance.
If you need better strength and/or corrosion resistance you are into 330, 353MA, 800H and related alloys. Serious money.
Caution, don't use a duplex SS. The properties wile hot may be OK, but when it cools it will embrittle making each start up a very high risk venture.

Perry Chem Engg Handbook, materials of construction says high temp high alumina (50-90% alumina) brick is often used in lime kilns as the internal lining. See page 28-57 and table 28-33 in the 7th edition.
