Method for Cost Estimation of die tools for manufacture of car body. 2

I am working on a project to provide an estmation of the costs for die tools that are needed for the manufacture of the car body panels.I am also looking for a method to understand the complexity of these dies so that a reflection of this is seen in the costs as well.

Until and unless you mention which body panel you need to press, it is difficult to say how much it will cost you.

For example

Door inner for CAR body panel may require following dies

1 - Blank Die

2 - Draw Die

3 - Trim Die

4 - Restrike Die

5 - Pierce Die

6 - hemming Die

Die number 3 -5 May contain other operations like

Flange , Plunge , Pierce operations in them

For producing big panels like Body side , Crash member, Floor , Rear Qtr. panel. you require complex design

If you can give the details of panels and some ref. pics

It will be possible to estimate the cost.

I am working on a project to provide an estmation of the costs for die tools that are needed for the manufacture of the cooking grill parts.

The component shape is of the form of a rectangular box with incline sides. I have assumed the primary fabrication process to be Drawing operation and Punching & trimming as seconadary operations.

I have slected a power press of capacity 30 tons for aluminium 30003 sheet.

I am in great need to determine the cost estimations of dies for the ones mentioned above.

It be great if anyone could help me in this regard.

You should be interested in searching for information on Technical Cost Modeling. This methodology was developed at MIT ( and successfully commercialized for studies in Automotive, Construction, Electronics, and other industries by IBIS Associates (

Many studies have been conducted by using this methodology to study the costs of stamping dies.
