Greetings,

Is there any specific test or method to analyse the efficiency of columns, I am not talking about designing point of view for no of trays or pressure drop etc.

Some one told me an interview about HSD RCO method use to determine the efficiency of column.

Please guide me if you knew any thing about it, I have google it and search it but I didn't find anything like this.

Check design condition of column and Material balance around the column. if your column produce same material balance then your column efficiency is ok and if not then look around Heat balance and feed composition / quality. Just read operating philosophy and many things will be clear to you.

What do you mean "column efficiency"? It is a ration of what to what?

Pls post this in some structural or civil engineering forum - this has nothing to do with chemical engineering.

basically it was ask me in an interview, he thought there is some kind of test to determine the efficiency, I told him that you can figure out by 5/95 gap method but he refuse it.

Run a model of your system by using 100% tray efficiency and vary the number of trays until you get the same quality of top and bottom products, for actual reboiling and reflux ratio. Then divide the number of trays you get with actual number of trays in the column, and that is efficiency.

Distillation column efficiency, most likely.
