Hi there people, I’m a technician in the electrical commission field of protection, and have recently come with a device called the metrosil. I have tried various ways of getting how it works and the true operation. All methods tried have given me conflicting answers, can anyone give me a true and detail description of how the metrosil works.

Metrosil is a device which protects equipment from over voltages. In protection circuit, it is normally used across the differential relays.

Metrosil unit is actually non-linear resistor. Probably you work with former GEC Alstom restricted earth fault protections, like MFAC 14/34, where these resistors are used to protect relay input from overvoltages in secondary current circuits in case of current transformer saturation.
