Let's not debate with clichés, especially not thought-terminating clichés.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

You have the right to free speech, unless you're wrong.

The twin elephants in the room in these sorts of 'debates' are the intentional debasing of language and the utter paucity of critical thinking skills.
When combined with the media's commercial priorities, the result is we have lost the unity and focus necessary to crack existential threats to humanity.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Yea, OK. You call people crackpots and then write a post basically saying climate change is an extinction level threat and insulting anyone who doesn't agree. That's the reason why this forum is dead.

I said none of those things in the way you accuse me of. If you feel insulted that is your decision.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Lionel -

I didn't take Ironic_metallurgist's comment that way.

He's merely pointing out the two problems (i.e. elephants) that come up. 1) When the language used is intended to provoke / incite emotion. 2) Critical thinking skills (not sure I agree with that point, especially on this forum).

Then he goes on to point out that the media is concerned primarily about commercial success. This feeds into both elephants. They get better ratings by writing poorly researched articles that don't really seek to inform or educate. And, journalists don't tend to have the critical thinking skills on matters that are more complex or technical. Therefore, they may not even understand what they're writing about. Not conducive to having a genuine discussion or debate on the subject.

I agree with Lionel.
1) ironic did use the terms "crackpot", "racist trolls", etc. So who is debasing the language?

2) And "extinction level threat" and "existential threats to humanity" are the same thing, alarmism.

I won't defend the media. But as to censorship, if you like it, vote for Kamala Harris, who wants to criminalize climate change skepticism.

I'm not insulted. You should change your signature because you don't believe in what it says.
