I have a part that requires either sinking EDM or Micro Hardmilling to create. This part is essentially a .025" wide by .0125" deep channel with one open end and one end with a sweeping form. The sweeping form is doing my work, and needs to be clean, polished and the cavity needs to be +/- .0002". The material needs to be a hardened material such as CPM, S7, D2, or even carbide.

Traditionally, one would create this on a conventional edm (sinker). Recently though, I have seen similar parts created on Makino Milling machines, running a .007" diamond end mill. This shop was located in Germany and did not want to tackle any outside work. Their work is only in-house stuff.

So I am wondering, does anyone do this kind of work in the USA? For now we are talking about prototypes until I perfect the design, then it could be all out production type work.

I would appreciate any leads..

Thanks, John

Not sure about the material, however I used to get Design 2 Part magazine (till last year) which focused on US manufacturing companies etc.

I remember several entries for micro machining so maybe you can track something down that way - they have online content.
