Micropile (helicals/push pier) general notes 1

I am unable to find any general notes for this item. The manufacturers seem only to have the full spec section.

Would be possible for someone here to share these general notes?

WWTEng - attached are some notes we used on a previous project.

Keep in mind that these should be carefully edited to fit your particular project, location, available vendors, etc.

I believe these were supplemented with an actual pile specification and didn't stand alone as the primary spec for the piles.

Use at your own risk.

Thank you. Absolutely, I'll edit as required and use them at my own risk.
 
I would add a section about installation tolerances. I have had contractor's locate a pier pretty far off and claim no tolerances were specified.

Also not a bad idea to specify a load test prior to installing production piers.

FOUNDATIONS (SCREW PILES)

THE FOUNDATION DESIGN IS BASED ON USING A CONTINUOUS SCREW PILE ASSEMBLY CONSISTING OF A PILE SHAFT AND MULTIPLE HELICES

PILES HAVE BEEN DESIGNED ASSUMING A SKIN FRICTION VALUE OF 375 PSF AND AN END BEARING CAPACITY OF 4177 PSF

FOR EXTERIOR PILES, THE TOP 6.6 FT BELOW FINISHED GRADE HAS BEEN NEGLECTED

FOR INTERIOR PILES AND BASEMENT WALL PILES, THE TOP 3 FT HAS BEEN NEGLECTED

SKIN FRICTION HAS BEEN ASSUMED FROM THE ABOVE DATUM TO ONE HELIX DIA ABOVE THE FIRST HELIX

BEARING AREA HAS BEEN ASSUMED TO BE THE HORIZ PROJECTED AREA OF THE HELIX LESS THE DIA OF THE PILE FOR THE UPPER HELICES AND THE FULL PROJECTED AREA FOR THE LOWEST HELIX

PILE WALL THICKNESS AND SIZE SHOWN IS MINIMUM AND SHALL BE INCREASED AS NECESSARY TO ACCOMMODATE INSTALLATION EQUIPMENT

SCREW PILES SHALL BE PLACED NOT CLOSER THAN 3 HELIX DIA FROM ADJACENT PILE U/N

PITCH OF HELICES SHALL BE 6" UNLESS APPROVED BY THE [CONSULTANT | ENGINEER]

SPACING OF HELICES SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 3 TIMES THE HELIX DIA

SPACING OF HELICES SHALL BE A WHOLE NUMBER MULTIPLE OF THE HELIX PITCH

PROVIDE A ZINC RICH EPOXY PRIMER FOR THE TOP 10 FT OF ALL PILES AND THE PILE HEAD


INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

FABRICATE SCREW PILES AS STIPULATED; PROVIDE ADDED LENGTH FOR INSTALLATION

PROVIDE 1" MIN THICK CAP PLATE WITH SUITABLE MEANS OF ATTACHMENT FOR INSTALLATION EQUIPMENT

INSTALL PILES AS SHOWN IN THE DOCUMENTS

CUT PILE TOP TO SUIT THE WORK AND REMOVE COATING AS REQUIRED

WELD NEW 1"x 16"x 16" MIN CAP PL TO PILE AT PROPER ELEV

CONNECTION PL TO BE HDG. GRIND OFF HDG AS REQUIRED FOR WELDING. WELD NEW CONNECTION PL TO CAP PL

ALL WELDS TO BE 5/16" FILLET WELD MIN ALL AROUND

PROVIDE A ZINC RICH EPOXY PRIMER TOUCH-UP FOR ALL STEEL NOT ENCASED IN CONCRETE
