A have two examples of the same component, that should have been manufactured from aluminium 6063 T6. One appears to be correct, but I suspect the other has been made from 6082 T6. The hardness of the later is approximately 105Hv compared to 75Hv of the former.
I am organising chemcial analysis to be performed to check, but this will take a few days. Is it possible to determine the difference between them by their microstructure - what should I be looking for.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

No, they will have very similar microstructures.

I agree with CoryPad, it will be very difficult or impossible to distinguish the two by microstructural evaluation. The volume fraction of Mg2Si particles will be higher for 6082 vs. 6063 (hence the higher hardness/strength), but unless you are using an image analysis system and a large survey area, I doubt that you would be able to use this as conclusive evidence.
