Can any of you microwave specialists (or others) please tell me
- what is the range of frequencies used in microwave cooking, and
- how do the ovens prevent microwave radiation from coming out of the cooking enclosure (except at levels below statutary limits)?
Thankyou.

FCC approved frequencies for microwave ovens are 915, 2450 and 5500 MHz but most ovens operate at 2450 MHz.

The cooking chamber is enclosed on all sides by metal plates except that the door has a perforated plate. These reflect the microwaves and prevent them from leaving the chamber.
