Is there a recommended procedure to move from one release increment to another (like, V5R15 -> V5R16)?

For instance, does one have to uninstall the older version completely, and then install the new? Is it possible to retain the user settings, under this scenario?

Can the two versions be installed side-by-side (ie to test functionality for a while)?

Thanks!

Hello,
If you want to use R16, forget about R15. Your CATSettings will have to be recreated (there is XML dump that makes things "easier").
If you want to use R15 and R16 on the same machine, no problemo, just make sure to use different CATEnv directories, env files and a different folders for settings.
Cheers

15 does not have to be removed. If 16 is installed side by side all of the user setting and customization will be retained. Then remove 15 if you like.. or leave it there.

This is only true if you follow the steps outlined by Excalibur. Otherwise, the first time you enter the new version, your old settings will be wiped out. (overridden by the "default" version - which is always the last one installed) And not segregating can cause problems with settings being present for non-existent funtionality between versions.

This is all set up when you install. Just be careful, read the prompts during installation, and keep it separated. It's really quite easy. I have versions 12-15 currently installed.
