Can anyone give me guidance or point me in the right direction on the minimum number of days between pours at contraction joints in a 12" RC base slab. The joints have a water-bar as it is in a tank. If the forms are pulled the day after pouring, to reduce shrinkage cracking the specification says seven(7)days must be allowed before casting against the joint. I have looked through ACI 302.1R, 304, 304.2R and cannot find any guidelines relating to this time frame.

The trouble you will have, as I see it, is that even if a "reference", say ACI, says less than 7-days, your specification says 7 days and that would be the requirement.

BigH, Thanks for the response. We are trying to find a way to make up time as the project is behind schedule. We would like to meet with the owner to put a proposal for reducing this time constraint and need to put forward a convincing case.

Follow the specification. The time requirement is there for a reason...quality of the final project. I am sick of contractors going behind my back to the owner to complain about requirements which are for the owner's benefit.

Pay now, or pay later. This fix later will not be easy nor inexpensive.

I assume that you are already pouring the slabs in a hit and miss sequence, you should be able to get a pour every day assuming more than 8 bays

Cheers,
