I need to make a mirror-like (shiny) surface by painting some chemical on a transparent plastics (like plexiglass) or a regular glass plate. One side of the plate should be shiny, when looking from the un-painted side(not on the top surface of the painted side). I tried a chrome finish paint which I bought from auto part store, on one side of a glass plate, however, it was dark color, instead of white and shiny, when looking from the un-painted side. The top surface on the sprayed side was shiny. Is there any spray or easy-to-use chemical that gives white and shiny (light reflecting) interface when looking from the un-painted surface?
Thanks. Peter

You couldn't use an ordinary cheap mirror?

Mike,

No, I cannot use ordinary mirror.
The surface is a part of an optical device. It doesn't have to give mirror-like image, as far as the surface reflects light well. Thanks.

Automotive paint requires good clear coat layers, followed by fine wet sanding, followed by polishing/buffing to get the shine/gleam. Could you make a sandwich layer? Instead of one layer of plexiglass, use two at half the thickness. Paint, clear, sand, & buff for your shine, then tack this one to the other sheet with the shiny side up facing through your plexiglass. There is a paint on chrome surface ( which may work for you if you really need some sparkle.

Could you use a thin sheet of aluminum or other polished metal?

Is localized plating or ceramic glazing an option?
